AAZHI - 2023

Rural camp is the part of the curriculum for the students.1st semester MSW trainees of LISSAH college conducted a seven day community living camp named 'Aazhi 2023' at Kozhikode district. The camp held from 23rd october to 30th october 2023. A total of 31 Social work trainees and four faculties attended the camp. It gives them an opportunity to get rural exposure, rural life style, to understand rural realities like education status, health status, occupation status, social and political status of the village.The main intention of the camp to know Azhiyur in-depth and to know about the socio-economic condition of people of coastal area and tsunami colony in Azhiyur and also about the life and health care service accessibility among fisherman in Azhiyur.The trainees conducted cultural programs, street play, survey, sramadan, medical camp and also conducted counseling for students at high school in Azhiyoor.

Azhiyoor is a serene beauty village located at the South- east side of Mahe Railway station. The place colored with river bank and seashore and these are the attractive destinations of Azhiyoor. The population of mainly consists of Hindus, Muslims, and nominally Christians. Most of the people are daily wage workers, they are engaging in fishing and coolie works. Azhiyoor is a tsunami threated area and had several other social issues. The place was affected by a tsunami in 2004. The place is still a tsunami risk zone. There were two types of community in this area. One is fisherman community and the another one is tsunami colony, people who have been rehabilitated after affected by tsunami in 2004.
